I read this yesterday, and was amused out how different people become irritated by religious inconsistencies in different ways.

I had read Twain's "little Bessie" before, but this selection http://www.sacred-texts.com/aor/twain/letearth.htm apparently published only posthumously is even a bit more biting. He would of made a good addition to any frum skeptics group.

  1. That's good! Thanks for the link. Made me laugh. Hilarious and wonderfully written. (I guess there's a reason he's THE Mark Twain.)

  2. Very interesting. It sounds like Mr. T thinks the Islam 72 virgins makes more sense as a paradise. It certainly is more appealing than Tsaddikim Yoshvim V'atrosohem B'rushaihem.

  3. I liked it too Baal Devarim, I guessit was to ireverant for the times. In "Little Bessie" he has a precocious child asking the questions and pointing out inconsistencies instead of Satan, so it's a little less abrasive to it's audience.
And I think you are right Baal Habos, he was very absorbed and outraged at religious sexual taboos.

He's worth reading about on wikipedia, he had a bizarre and fascinating life.

Where did you find that quote from R. Ovadiah Yosef? I'd like to look up a number of his speeches but I only found videos, no transcripts.
    Thanks.
